July marks the official launch of the TrainUtopia Blog! Check it out often, subscribe if you like, and get updated on what's happening in the performance improvement and training universe!

This month's newsletter addresses the continued industry focus on the latest generation to enter the workforce (the millenials is the description du jour) and the impending labor shortage. What surprised me is that there are currently more generations simultaneously in the working world than ever before. This spread can wreak havoc in some ways if you haven't equipped your employees with the tools to communicate across the spectrum. (This is just one of the reasons for our "blog" - it turns out that "millenials" prefer proactive searching for information instead of being spoon-fed in traditional classes.)

In the words of the great Bob Dylan, "The times, they are a-changin'." (And yes, he's before MY time!)

A recent report from The Conference Board found, for example, that 66% of organizations surveyed did not even have an age profile of their workforce. They also found that 81% of those organizations did not include cross- generational issues in their diversity training. If generational diversity is not on your radar screen, you may want to put it there.

 Profile XT

Brain drain - that’s the effect of your company’s intellectual assets seeping away each time you lose a good employee. With that employee goes his or her knowledge of the way things are done, where information is stored and how customers are served by your company. Each time one of your key employees resigns, you risk the loss of customers or even the loss of proprietary information to your competition.

Keeping good employees is a challenge in all industries. According to a Bureau of Labor study:

  • Two of three employees would rather work somewhere else
  • Turnover costs thousands of dollars for each departing employee
  • Eighty percent of employee turnover is avoidable

How can you minimize employee turnover and plug the corporate brain drain leak?

The Profile XT is a multi-purpose assessment that employs the latest technology to put the right person in the right job reducing employee turnover. You can use this great tool for selection, coaching, training, promotion, managing and succession planning.
